From Halifax / Montreal, Canada Purity Ring are one of the most intriguing new acts in left field pop.

Just announced for Golden Plains Festival in March, the duo will bring their otherworldly rapture to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Corin Roddick and Megan James, both in their early twenties, formed Purity Ring in late 2010. Midway through 2012, they released their assured debut record Shrines on 4AD/ Remote Control, introducing the world to their eerie, inviting universe.

Keeping things fresh, they recently enlisted rapper Danny Brown for a sequel to Shrines ‘Belispeak’ entitled“Belispeak II”.

The duo make lullabies for the club, drawing equally from airy 90s R&B, lush dream pop, and the powerful, bone-rattling immediacy of modern hip hop. Megan’s remarkable voice is at once ecstatic and ethereal, soaring joyfully through Corin’s carefully chopped beats, trembling synths, and skewed vocal samples.

The first song their collaboration produced was ‘Ungirthed’, which became the launching pad for what is now being heralded as future pop.

Purity Ring enthrals their audience with a carefully considered live show formed around a dynamic lighting rig. Built by Corin himself, it literally brings the music to life, as a web of futuristic coloured orbs light up and dim according to his improvisational live production techniques.

The Silo Arts Collective is happy to welcome Motion Picture Actress to the catalogue! Motion Picture Actress is the performing name of electronic musician Thom Brydon. Currently studying at the Jazz Music Institute in Brisbane, Thom’s work as Motion Picture Actress is intriguing. With a solid footing in jazz, Thom takes the genre of instrumental hip/hop and twists it into something new and different. These recordings are full of subtle texture, found sounds, and lo-fi warmth.

Motion Picture Actress’ debut single is the title track “Natural Ghost”. In Thom’s style, this track is littered with field recordings and thick ambience. His talent for beautiful composition and arrangments is ever-present throughout the two and half minute track.

Silo Arts is proud to release the first track from upcoming producer Tincture. Originally a Brisbane resident, this Japanese local has dropped a brand new remix of Christina Aguilera’s “Genie in a Bottle”, as a preview to his upcoming mixtape – due out on Silo Arts in May 2012. Tincture takes inspiration from the worlds of both future garage and alternative R’n'B, combining kitch pop vocal hooks, throbbing synth lines and erratic percussion.

Known around Australia for his explosive controllerism live shows, Tincture’s work is not to be missed. In his short time producing he has booked shows with Daedelus, Balam Acab, Space Dimension Controller and more.

The second official release from the Silo Arts collective comes from Brisbane electronica artist “Outerwaves”. Better known as Dom Stephens of Brisbane band “Oh Ye Denver Birds” and loop based project “Nimble Animal”, it’s no surprise that these tracks share the same delicacy and attention as his earlier works. Most comparable to Baths or Gold Panda, the two track Cosmic Trigger EP shows Dom’s love of quirky electronic synth lines, sound textures and his unconventional approach to rhythm. With an already impressive catalogue of music yet to be released, this could possibly be beginning something great. Be sure to stay tuned.

The first single, “Big Cats”, is an upbeat, playful tune, overflowing with double rainbows and happy vibes. Outerwaves launched the Cosmic Trigger EP when he supported Daedelus on the 23rd of November, at the Bridge Club in Brisbane City.

White Palms is the performing name of Brisbane based producer and pedal builder Matthew Cook. Matt has been working on the White Palms project since early 2010, and finally released his debut, self-titled EP on the 3rd of September, 2011.

The White Palms material is dense blend of melody driven hip-hop and leftfield electronica. Matt’s keen sense of minimalism, and taste for tight production has earnt him a much respected place within the Brisbane electronic scene, and he has since joined our local Brisbane arts collective “Silo”. The five tracks are rich with warmth, groove, and ambience. No stranger to vinyl sampling, Matt has sourced sounds from all parts of the audio realm, and thoughtfully glued them together to construct his first release.
